For most teachers, whatever the level of experience, classroom management is one of the biggest challenges we face. Our goal is to engage students in active learning and help them to feel successful. There are advantages to using positive reinforcements, as opposed to negative consequences (punishment), especially in Jewish schools where we are working to build community and affirmative connections to Judaism. Best practices in education involve teaching, monitoring and rewarding the behaviors we want to reinforce. Behavior can be taught, just like we teach Hebrew, history or any other content area.
