Unpacking a Tale of Five Balloons

image description

The classic Israeli book, A Tale of 5 Balloons, presents a beautiful story for children about five kids and their balloons. Read on a deeper level by teens and adults, it can be understood as an allegory for how Israeli society deals with war and trauma. This accompanying lesson provides the background and guidance to explore the meanings behind the text, and features ways to use this book with students in the early years of grade school and to those in high school alike. The story is told using the simplest of Hebrew vocabulary, making it an ideal choice for story time b’Ivrit.

This activity is best suited for 1st- 12th grades based on development levels.
